Pink Shirt Day Campaign

The Project

When the Boys & Girls Club of Wetaskiwin formed the Wetaskiwin, Millet and Maskwacis Anti-bullying Coalition, they wanted to find a cost-effective way to promote the community’s annual Pink Shirt Day and its anti-bullying message.

SPC worked with the coalition to create a series of large pledge cards with personal commitments such as “We will not be bullies.” and “I will ______ because we won’t be bullied.” With these cards, coalition members traveled throughout the region to various events and organizations to encourage community members to show their commitment to end bullying by posing for photos with their pledges.

These images were then displayed on a free blogging platform (Tumblr) using a customized theme and URL (www.pinkshirtwetaskiwin). On this site were anti-bullying resources, order forms for Pink Shirts, and downloadable letter-sized pledge cards

Impact

The campaign proved to be popular in the community and ran for three years during the lead-up to Pink Shirt Day. Ultimately, the campaign helped to increase the visibility of the Coalition (both online and in person), provided it with a cohesive brand, as well as content that could be used beyond the website.
